ISO 11885:2007 Water quality — Determination of selected elements by inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES)

ISO 11885:2007 specifies a method for the determination of dissolved elements, elements bound to particles ("particulate"), and total content of elements in different types of water, including ground, surface, raw, potable, and wastewater. The elements covered by this standard include aluminium, antimony, arsenic, barium, beryllium, bismuth, boron, cadmium, calcium, chromium, cobalt, copper, gallium, indium, iron, lead, lithium, magnesium, manganese, molybdenum, nickel, phosphorus, potassium, selenium, silicon, silver, sodium, strontium, sulfur, tin, titanium, tungsten, vanadium, zinc, and zirconium.

The relevance of measuring these elements lies in their significant impact on water quality and environmental health. Many of these elements are essential nutrients, but in excessive amounts, they can become toxic and pose risks to aquatic life and human health. The inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES) method is important because it provides a highly sensitive and accurate means of detecting and quantifying these elements in various water samples. The method's ability to handle complex matrices and its high throughput make it suitable for comprehensive water quality monitoring and environmental assessments.

The accuracy and reliability of ICP-OES are crucial for ensuring that water quality assessments are thorough and that appropriate measures can be taken to manage and mitigate contamination.

With the highly robust and sensitive PlasmaQuant 9200 series, Analytik Jena offers a powerful, reliable and compliant solution for ICP-OES analyses to fulfill the requirements of ISO 11885:2007
