The UWWTD introduces new requirements for monitoring PFAS and organically bound fluorine in environmental and wastewater samples (sum of PFAS, total PFAS). Sum parameters for fluorine such as AOF (Adsorbable Organic Fluorine) and EOF (Extractable Organic Fluorine) are becoming increasingly important in order to provide a comprehensive picture of contamination levels. In this web seminar, we provide an overview of the determination of AOF in accordance with the current standard ISO EN 18127 and highlight its practical application. In addition, we introduce the EOF approach and share our experience from participating in a Europe-wide interlaboratory study. Another focus is on modern analytical technologies: we demonstrate how molecular absorption spectrometry can represent a powerful and cost-effective alternative to classical combustion ion chromatography for determining organic fluorine compounds.

Key learning objectives:

  • Understanding of PFAS sum parameters (total PFAS)
  • Detailed review of the new standard EN 18127
  • Insight into extractable organic fluorine (EOF)
  • Fast and innovative fluorine determination in environmental samples using AAS technology

Who should attend?

  • Municipal wastewater treatment plants and wastewater associations
  • Industrial direct and indirect dischargers of wastewater
  • Environmental laboratories for wastewater monitoring
  • Regulatory authorities at local, regional, and national levels
  • Consulting and engineering firms for wastewater treatment plants
